The Como Woodland Advocacy Committee

The Como Woodland Advocacy Committee is a group of community members that have an interest, passion, and/or technical skills that have helped to make the Como Woodland Outdoors Classroom (CWOC) come to be and continue to guide its’ development and use.    Examples of what we have worked on in the past include:

·         Reviewing restoration plans for St. Paul Park and Recreation,

·         Reviewing interpretive materials such as the  natural resources and historical field guides,

·         Organizing special celebratory events in the woodland,

·         Assisting with restoration work such as invasive species control or plantings,

·         Advising and working with teachers on using the woodland as an outdoor classroom,

·         Connecting with the local community to help in restoration work,

·         With partners writing grant applications to assist with restoration, getting teachers, student and community members involved in the classroom

·         As time and expertise allow, providing interpretive programs for student and community members.

The committee meets about once a month in-person at the CWOC Kilmer Memorial Fireplace during the growing season, and during the winter months the committee meets via Zoom.
